MCB failure

ok at work today I started to commission two control panels I have built, out of a batch of 18 MCG D20 triple pole MCB's two where faulty out the box.

I know MCG is just a cheep make and I wouldn't have had them if it where up to me but I've never had a single MCB be faulty out the box never Mind two.

Has any one seen anything like this before, as I'm beginning to dout the whole batch?

ive had a few wylex ones burn out .suposed to be 6amp and only had 3 amp running - off them. id phone the company up and have a word with there technical department and give them the batch numbers and they may she light on it if theres a problem and tell them your not happy -about it in a nice way

Our company have finally recalled all MCG Mcb's and now RCBO's.
I do the site testing and have spoken and emailed about these products for a long time now.
They are dangerous cheap tat.
1 The mcb' s run very hot on low loads.
2 The mcb' s occasionally haven't tripped on faults like dead shorted (damaged) cables.
3 The 30ma RCBO's often won't trip in the required times and will most of the time let through enough fault current to trip a 300ma time delayed earth leakage unit.
4 Pressing the test button will mostly cause an RCD further up stream to trip.
5 The terminations are very poor , often when the screw is tight the cable can be pulled out!


Don't use them and take them back!

I won't say what I do but will say we at least get the chance to get them back when plant cames back from site. We now have about 5 large sacks of them in the stores.

i mainly fit lewden and hager switchgear and have never had any problems with either -

I normally use Merlin Gerin or Schneider as it is now.

Merlin Gerin, Square D, Schneider are all top quality. For control panels I like the modern Siemens due to the high level of finger protection and they are good German quality.

Hager ive never had an issue with, nore mk, but not what they used to be.

mk had a problem with there double pole-- mainswitches a few years ago and some were recalled. id fitted 3 in a school and one was faulty they paid me 50 quid for each i checked and £-75- for changing the faulty one all 3 were next to each other none have ever been faulty since. a decent product
