Maypole turbomig 130 torch

So I had a maypole turbomig 130 for free and have been practicing laying down welds, whilst trying to keep my stick out length as short as possible ive managed to destroy the gas shroud

having removed it and the tip I can’t find what I think are the right replacements (mine only seems to have a single coiled spring as opposed to most that have multiple coils)

ive also looked on eBay for a new torch assembly but most appear to have 2 trigger leads where as mine only has 1?

Any help would be much appreciated in solving this

Welcome. Maypoles were rebranded SIPs, way back when their first hobby MIGs were good quality in the early to mid 1980's.

I've not seen a torch like yours before. You can fit any cheap generic AK14 type, the two wires just feed the DC welding voltage back to the board.

Thanks mate! From what I’ve been reading I can buy a cheap AK14 type torch and wire one trigger wire to the place my original trigger wire goes then the other to where the main torch cable is supplied from? Any idea what shrouds an tips the AK14 torches take? I should probably order a boat load of them whilst I’m still getting to grips with it!

Yes that's right.
They take the very common MB15 tips and shrouds.

Thank you very much I’ve ordered a torch, some tips and shrouds, some ring terminals and push connectors (in case the gas hose needs lengthening) - will report back when fitted

The gas hoses were long on those I bought.

The gas valves in these aren't great. 5% had issues - either leaks or too stiff on the trigger.

On balance though, they're an economical option to fix a basic hobby MIG that's not worth spending the £70 on for an OEM torch.

I did briefly look at converting to a euro torch but couldn’t seem to find a straight answer about wiring up the gas solenoid and I felt it probably went beyond my electrical talents! This welder was a freebie so my plan is to spend as minimal cash as possible on it then possibly upgrade to something a bit nicer if I can get the hang of it

Well I did it! New torch fitted, just waiting for some 0.6mm tips to arrive before attempting to melt some metal with it

I’d already done that one and forgot to put it back on (admittedly nowhere near as elegant as yours)

finally managed to get some molten metal out of it... please don’t judge that’s my first ever attempt at welding lol, put it in a bench vice and bent the parent metal 90 degrees with a hammer so can’t be too bad
