Ive seen a fairly clean unabused ml10 not too far from myself and was wondering what sort of money these should fetch with minimal tooling and also are they a good quality lathe? i only want it for its small foot print and small scale work ,all opinions welcome, thanks for your time.

cheers for that, this guy is looking for about 500 sterling for it, are there any pitfalls to watch out for?

just wear in the bed and cross slide and any on the headstock bearings and just general abuse . ecessive backlash on the cross slide screw

Im no expert but I didnt see any of the above but the chuck is very small and of the hand tightening type and it needs a 4 way tool post a new chuck and ill have to see about getting a milling attachment if it comes my way

I could be wrong but didn't the ml10 have phosphor bronze spindle bearings?

your better off looking at 500e post as to which year of manafacture the lathe is as to its specifications and what its worth

£500 is reasonable but try and get a Raglan over a Myford for the same money.

It's a nice lathe but very small, I payed less for a much larger machine.

the small lathe suits my present needs, I presume there would be no problem reselling if I had to?

I have the Super 7 which is the bigger brother and used an ML10 before that. The ML10 is a superb little lathe for small jobs. Its a model engineers and toolmakers lathe so not designed for handling big stuff. If its in good condition its going to knock post off any of the modern chinese lathes. £500 is very good price for a Myford.

I use my Super 7 for making bike parts. spindles, bushes etc and have just gotten into model engineering on it making my first steam engine recently.

It will resell in a heart beat. Small enough to fit in a small workshop unlike the big lathes being suggested and really easy to maintain and setup. Its a bronze bush bearing so make sure there is no play and make sure you keep it well oiled using the oilers or wicks. Other than that they are pretty trouble free.

I bought the ml10 and to be fair im very happy with it, now i need to get some tooling and a larger chuck and maybe a faceplate, my list of to get are,
cutting tool set (indexable) boring bar,knurling tool and a quick change toolpost, any sensible advice on the above impending purchase? and pitfalls with buying from rdg?/myford?

hss tools will do 95 percent of work unless your cutting hard materials regular

???u need to cut hss and cobalt on a lathe i wouldnt have thought so. grind maybee

if i have to yea, i turn down the shanks to fit into collets also, the lathe has came with regular hss tools, I jut want to get it all in one order from the one seller as getting cutting tools ect in Ireland is troublesome

yes the shanks are soft and can be cut but the cutting end isnt i was going to say your expecting a lot

a friend of mine swears blind a carbide cutter can cut a lead on the end of a drill bit, i said it would be unlikely but i was admonished instantly, he swears it can be done! ive not done or seen it done myself but have used bits that he had a lead turned onto,Im out of info for tonight lol
