May have stopped someone tying to weld?

I hope I did not but, was in Lidl earlier and a Dad was talking to his lad about buying one of the specials there. A 40 to 80 Amp buzz box for £39.99.

I suggested he did not bother and spend his money on better kit if he wanted to, but I would bet he never bothers now!

Well, maybe they're have tried it with the cheap rods that would have probably been available, and the combination of everything might have resulted in a quick attempt followed by the welding equipment being abandoned in a corner, or in the bin.

Same result, but money saved?

I wouldnt worry, you offered good advice, chances are, he will ignore the advice, buy one, and then wish he had paid heed, a human trait.
One of my many pastimes is woodturning, some time ago i advised a work mate with similar advice, i told him to buy the best wood lathe he could, and if need be save up until he could afford a good quality lathe,
did he absorb the advice, No, did he ek, he did his own thing, but very quickly realised his mistake,
he bought a much better lathe later on, and now enjoys the pleasure of turning wood.

ironicly we,ve all been there at some point...its part of the progression or long road that we need to take to end up here offering advice big or small.

I was thinking back to when I first started, with a SIP buzz box trying to weld an exhaust with 1.6mm rods, quickly gave that up but was shown how to weld up agle on a repair to a trailer.

The welder was crap, but I am still practising. Some times we have to make the mistakes.
