hi I'm new to welding. Still learning. I bought a new Matweld 200 dc inverter. While I was busy trying to weld it was ok. I then left it on for some time and it just went of all by itself. I left it for some time and tried switching it on and it just flickers the 7-segment display. It normally does that after switching it off. But now it can't switch on and it flickers the red display. What could be the problem? Thanks.

Have you tried completely disconnecting from the power at the mains plug. Reason modern machines have a electronic "turn on" Hence they don't need a big switch! But unless the power is disconnect completely and allowed to fall to zero (10 to 15 mins) it may still "hold" the error condition. Machines I work on need 20 plus mins for voltage to decay !

Modern cheapanese inverters use a switch straight on the incoming mains, this switch sometimes is under-rated (you'll see this on most cut 50's)...
The voltage decay is due to the smoothing caps on the rectifier board discharging.

If its new then take it back to the shop
Thank you all for your help. after staying off the whole night, i tried switching it on in the morning and still it didn't work. I wonder if its because of trying to get an arc and sticking the rod to the work-piece? Anyhow the shop where i bought it replaced it. But I still got the same name of welder so I hope it won't blow again. I have already done a few pieces without it blowing. Thanks all.
