Maths Question

Can someone with a clearer head than mine help me with this formula

I need to know what Yj is for Xj=2, Xj=10, Xj=100 is please

I get 2 is 2.811579
I get 10 is 1.027458
I get 100 is 0.0278232

My customer's sample values indicate

2 is 1.808
10 is 0.392
100 is 0.184
Am I calculating this incorrectly? or are his values miles out?

Customer is right. You're wrong.

Assuming that is the brackets raised to the power rather than multiplied. Which given the smaller font and slight superscript I'd agree with.

You are calculating in incorrectly (somehow). I get the same as your customer

He's multiplying by 1.8 not raising it to the power.

You are multiplying the stuff in the brackets in the denominator by 1.8, rather than raising it to the power of 1.8

Your customer is right. I did the same as you to start with, not seeing that as to the power of 1.8.

(Edit: Didn’t read that as to the power of 1.8. Recalculating…)

As already mentioned your customer's results are correct. The sums in the bracket are raised to the power of 1.8 not multiplied by 1.8.

(Just for the hell of it, and zero to do with this thread, a simple equation like : x^x (x to the power of x) = 9 is quite tricky to solve algebraicly apparently....)

I think the answer to that always has to be at least 0.18 - so a simple check that some of your results were wrong. thats assuming the Xj is always positive… my brain cant figure out what happens if its not.
