Hi guys,
I'm in need of some help deciding which material to buy for some projects. I've used 50mm square hollow section (3mm wall) in the past but I think it might not be up to the job this time. I'll be buying it to use for several projects and some structures will involve cantilever type situations. So:
1. I was wondering if going up in wall thickness (to 4mm) would allow it to resist bending better, or should I go to rectangular hollow section? For the same wall thickness, is 60x40mm any stronger than 50x50mm when used the right way up?
2. Ideally I'd use 50x75mm but its not widely available, would 40x80 be a good substitute? I don't really want to go up to 50x100, its just too big for most of what I need.
3. Can anyone recommend any sizes of steel they would ALWAYS keep handy in their workshop?
Thanks in advance,
Steve.
