Not sure why you would want to use something water soluble as pva or emulsion? I forgot to check if my paving seal was polyurethane based, i have a feeling it maybe. I bought it to seal some slate flagging but the finish was too matt so it needs to be used. I only need to make the floor easier to keep the dust easier to manage and a bit more illumination is a bonus. I do have a ruck of sbr which is basically a waterproof pva but is a bit in the pricey side, I use it for flagging as it helps when laying marble and slate.

sbr is a bonding agent and is water soluble till it hardens and wont re emulsify if it gets wet on a damp surface

Yeah ,The reason for using pva and or emulsion is that (1) it's cheap ,if not free (2) it drys quick(3) modern water based paints are very hard wearing and you can scrub the floor with a yard broom (4) if you have done some painting in the house and got the odd bit of paint left mix it all up and bingo a funky workshop floor ... (5) if you want to make it last longer buy a ltr of Ronseal Diamond hard waterbased varnish and slap it on over the top with a roller dry in an hour and it will last years....jeff...

The masonry paint looks like it will be up to the job, seems pretty tough and provides good grip but time will tell. I had some leftover dulux and some b&q stuff, surprisingly the b&q stuff is better. I did run out so had to buy some more, the dulux stuff is £50 for 10l and b&q is £35 for 10l but if you buy 2x 5l tubs it's only £30!? A friend told me if the finish was slippery to get some terrace paint as that has fine grit ready mixed into it.

Or just scatter a bit of fine (silver) sand onto your cheaper paint while it's wet?.

possibly a bit late now but I am guessing one downside of grit in the paint is wear and tear on overalls/clothing when you slide under a vehicle
