Masonry Drill Bits and Rebar

Morning All

I have to drill some holes (probably about 12mm ish) through a precast concrete garage, and Sod's law dictates that on at least one hole, I'll come across some rebar.

Is there a drill bit, or a clever technique that could cope with that?

If using a SDS drill you can get SDS rebar cutters but are a bit pricey.

Have you got a strong neodymium magnet? It's almost certain that you'll be able to locate the rebar with one.

I have not done it but I recall someone here re grinding SDS bits to a conventional rake, I suppose it would need a green grinding wheel. But if they can be easily bought, not much point except in an emergency when the shops are shut.

i buy the cheapo 6mm sds drills and grind a cutting edge on them on green stone they work very well. I also sometimes buy the bosh ones and touch them up before they get 2 blunt

I think u'll find that genuine "Hilti" masonary drill bit will just go straight thru....... very expensive tho.........frank
