Masking tape

Been a while now since I painted a car, not that I miss it (but I was quite good at it) and things move on. Need to paint a panel on the works van so I was wondering what is the latest and greatest with regard to masking tape?
Or should I just use decent quality tape, as I have always done?

3m blue low tack I would think the best. something cheaper if you aren't fussy

blue 3m is pretty popular , cheap stuff tends to fall off or leave residue

seems expensive for what it is

Most of the branded tapes are good. I don't find much difference between the cream and blue ones.

Don't be tempted to use brown parcel tape like I once did. Pulled the tape off left all the glue behind. Spent ages cleaning it off!

sometimes if using masking tape its a pig to get off if left on for a good while. go over it with a hair drier and off it comes easily

Any tape from a paint n body factors should be good enough,no need for anything expensive

I don’t do much masking but find Frog tape good.

I used the cheap blue tape from toolstation, worked ok and came off easily, for close masking I bought some 3m fineline tape, that was ideal where 2 colours where being painted.

Thanks everyone for all the suggestions. Good quality masking tape it is then.

Used the fine line tape to mask up to an edge before, works well but a lot of tape and effort.

You are right about leaving Masking tape too long, it sticks like hell. Good tip with using a bit of heat to get it off.
