Another thread documenting the restoration of a vice. This was my first ever vice and I'd been looking for weeks. Found it in a junk shop in a right state, someone had bent it forward most likely by repeated smacking, using it as a bench vice. The rails had to go to the engineers to be straightened, cost me $10 - bought the thing for $20
Poor photo taken at my then job, but a bit of a laugh because you can't fix a vice without a vice haha
Goodbye rust
You can see very faint numbers in the cast above the thread. Not sure what it said, it didn't refer to the vice as I remember, though there were 1 and 2 cast marks somewhere
Front
Another room, another coat of paint
Painted it blue as I didn't like Hammerite's green
And decided to pick the lettering out in red
Then done!
Funny story I won't forget about this vice was the washer on the front was cracked when I got it so I needed another. Went to the suppliers but their washers were much larger diameter. Got quoted $6 to have one made, what a bloody rip! I said I'd think about it. Well near me they're building this glass-fused-to-steel water tank, it's very big and it's made in England. I walked my dog there on a Sunday when all the guys were gone out of curiosity, and low and behold found a washer the exact same size as I needed! It's almost like it came from England to find me
I have sold this vice, traded it in with some other stuff when I bought this . Sold it for $20, saw him slap a $45 ticket on it as I was paying haha, still I got a better deal on the bender than $25 is worth crying about.
Cheers
