Marketplace scam?

I have an item for sale on marketplace. Someone with Asian name messaged to ask about it. We were discussing a time for him to come to see it when he messaged,,
Can you ring me on 07859755691 now please.
I told him my phone was u/s and there was no further conversation from him.
Just wonder if it's a scam as he didn't respond.
Is there some way I can check the number he gave?

id phone as above hes prob got a few questions and its easyer to ask over a phone as long as hes paying cash on collection and hes coming to you to collect theres not much to worry about stick to them rules and its near impossable to get done over

and hes prob just tring to suss you out if your actualy selling the item you got listed
is it a mobile phone or computer etc ?

If I was him I'd definitely be thinking you were suspect, telling him your phone is u/s

There are other threads on here lamenting the difficulty of sharing phone numbers for ebay listings - is it not a good thing that it's easier (and cheaper!) to have a conversation about something you are trying to buy or sell on FB marketplace?

The only possible way I can see a scam in that is if he gives you a premium rate number and keeps you talking long enough to make £50 out of you.

More likely he has got a payg mobile and does not want to use his own credit up.

Facebook market place for me has been full of timewasters who never turn up when they are supposed to or message you back.Even ebay seems better to me.

Having done quite a few sales om marketplace I have experienced difficulties with many buyers, 90% of them being Asians.

I have lost one phone, my other one is knackered.

With market place selling, I usually get folk to ring me, and if I cant go see and collect something forsale I dont bother.

My problem with most FB MP buyers is they will not share numbers even tho I've given them mine

Drove to Brecon 1 day to pickup a stainless food prep bench, had a post code and guy said message me when you get here

I went there, choice of about 40 houses, no contact number to ring him and for some reason FB messenger would not let me message him on 3/4G

Used my detective powers to work out that the only place likely to have stainless food prep stuff was either the pub or B&B

Same with buyers, if I've agreed for someone to come and buy something ill give them my post code house number and mobile number, tell them to ring me once they are here as some people seem to have difficulty finding the house.

They arrive, can't find the house then message me on FB marketplace rather than ring
