A sign of the times. Our local charity shops have cottoned onto the worth of some things & charge whatever they can get.Seriously? £249.99 from a charity shop?
As for the Mamods, I would love to blag those prototypes, I see those soaring in price way beyond the standard ones.
I know a bloke who collects them, every one he has drilled a hole in the boiler "Cant use them they are not safe"???? Really.

They are wise to the value of items.
The big ones have E bay accounts.
Some will bulk sale at auctions.
I have no objections to paying a fair price in a charity shop.
yeah and quite a few mamod engines are sold through ebay charity shops. they have a larger audience than passing trade at a charity shop.
I once won an ebay auction where the seller was a local hospice for 99p with free delivery, I ended up making a donation by justgiving to them as it was worth at least £5 to me.

The newer ones had a different burner that was designed for blocks, a bit large bbq firelighters. At a guess @theyellowardvark would know...

Meths is prefered.
You can run the new engines with the old school burner.
The gel runs hotter than the tablets, I use bbq starter gel

Hexamine blocks, used for camping stoves too.
Now hard to get as they can be modified for use in diy explosives, apparently.
Got it going with some meths.
Need to get a drive band for the generator. My son was more interested in the whistle than it chugging away. Also got a steam crane my dad made from scratch. It takes ages to get going so is easier to remove the pressure relief valve and put an air line in to make it run.
