Maktec power tools

Has anyone any experience/opinions on this stuff , which i believe is Makitas cheap range, made in china i think to there specs /quality.
Im no fan of the chineses stuff but im in need of a replacement chopsaw (14") and im on a budget , got a new van to pay for

We bought a Maktec chop saw when our Makita one broke down while we were on site (The only thing that was available at the time). Whilst its not in use everyday, it works fine - even in an industrial environment (Hammered!!). Never any problems with it - the biggest it has cut is 3" solid round. Its quite noisy and bounces around a bit, but i think thats something that must be suffered with nearly all chop saws.
A good buy i would say.

Reasonable, Makitas version of green bosch i suppose, aimed at the light duty market.
Not seen any for sale for sometime though.

The guard is a bit over the top, its in about four pieces and makes it almost impossible to touch the blade at any time, which is a good thing of course, however it also stops you getting the material in, which is a bad thing. Ours has been skinnied down to just the two parts, which still offers more protection than most.

Thinking about it, our local machine shop was selling these a while ago (they are Makita dealers). There was no sign of anything Maktec when i went in this week.

cheers guys , got a shagged out evolution at the mo , gave up with the tungstone tipped blades on it and have been useing abrasive discs but its a bit slow running and vibrating its self slowly to bits
i think the jepson ones are asimilar quality to the maktec i suppose , not seen the jepsons recently tho

Well its been in use for acouple of days now , looks pretty much the same a s a makika (apart from colour ) did a little abrasive disc test today , cutting 8 cuts in 60 x 3 chs , ummm motor did smell a bit after that

i think the motor is where they saved the money
