Used them and they are good, use fine cut tools in them as the coarse tools can catch and snatch which is not good on delicate work.

They certainly go the distance.

I have used one, good steady to use.

I have notice when one on site, they use theirs on metal and stone, is the cable protector at the body end pulls outs. Not a major issue, but a PAT failure.

Make sure you get a variable speed one, makes it much easier on the hands as you can slow it down so it doesn't vibrate too much

Mine is the GD 0800 C, and it has variable speed.
They do seem more prone to snatching at lower speeds.

As Mee said, the coarser the tool, the more noticeable it seems.

I thought about the lower speed one, but I tend to use it mainly above 20,000 rpm, just because it feels less snatchy at higher speeds.
You may not need too many burrs (Garryson ones get my vote), as they seem to last forever.

I have the 800 variable speed one as well - nice tool. I have used it a lot with the stainless surface dressing flap wheels. It can get quite hot - but then I am using it in a sort of 'production' application with flap wheels which are probably larger than what it is specified to run. I had to buy the variable speed version because the 600 is too fast for the wheels I am using - may be worth bearing in mind if you ever intend to use yours for surface dressing?

Mine gets quite warm, too - it used to trouble me at first, but must've finally decided it was normal for them - so you've helped to confirm some of my guesswork!

But I'm also imagining a fearless crazed GrahamGKD, with a flap disc somehow mounted into the collett!

The only thing I've ever used in mine, apart from carbide burrs, has been a 75mm slitting disc. (on an arbor)

It is this kind of thing I use in mine (mainly). If the tool gets a bit hot I just put it on the bench and leave it running off load at full speed (without the wheel) for a short while for the fan to do it's work. More recently, I also have a couple of Metabo grinders so I rotate around them with different grades of wheel in each - that way the overheating is not an issue. I have one of the lower speed higher power variable speed Metabo die grinders - I can lean on that with a polishing mop in it and it never gets hot.

I'm suddenly realising how under-used mine is.

It sounds like die-grinder heaven where you are!

After I got mine, I found everything had a RPM limit of far less than the tool would run at - and with a minimum of 7000 rpm, it ended up getting used mostly with burrs.

But it's just about to get a new role - so I'd best get quicker at changing the tools in the collett.

Thanks for the pointer though, it got me kick-started on finding one of those things you never have a name for to search with!

I know what you mean - it seems a massive price gap for a feature that can only cost a fraction of that difference.
