Hi,
Read somewhere or maybe a comment in a Youtube Video about replacing the Blade on a Makita Circular Saw with one that doesn't suffer with wandering off line.
Anyone know what I should replace the standard Blade with to get cuts that stay on line ? It's sort of ok if you take it very slow but this Saw just wants to rip through wood so I'm having to hold her back somewhat

wander off line is this a 18v or 240v unit?

ive got a 18v makita and it will follow a line well infact if you dont keep it in line and wabble about as you cut it slows the saw down

18V only had it a few weeks but gave it some use today and noticed it wanders if you don't cut slowly, Considering this things capability I was surprised.
I wonder if I have a duff Blade ?

go get the blade sharpened.......
when I buy a new blade and before I open the box it goes to the grinders for sharpening....
even expensive blades.......
it costs pea nuts....I bought sh1te blades for rough work and every one has been improved by a grind....
I bought a couple of cheapy's from lidil the other day as a use it once and throw it away kinda job.....
got em sharpened first.....the other 2 blades are still in their boxes....
upto 40 teeth I pay 7-8 euro's ...... a 90 tooth x 305mm blade is 9-10 euros...this bloke is the best grinder I have ever used in my 50 years....

never had to do that before when buying good quality make blades it defeats the object

Use a straight edge?
That is what I do when I need a precision cut that is mm perfect. Anything free hand is rough work so close is more than good enough IMO. Thin kerf cordless blades give the batteries an easier time, but tend to wobble under load. Don't force the saw either, let it do the work.

i use a 40 tooth saw for most stuff but what i do most is ruff work eg fencing etc

but use a 60 tooth for cuts that need to look good and as above let the tool cut go slow

i have 2 bench circular saws. one i use for decent second hand wood and chance cutting a nail or staple the other new wood only and a chopsaw new wood only

I use a 7" Stanley Quick Square for Short cuts or a straight edge for the longer stuff, I must admit to not bothering to set the Blade depth which I'll address moving forward.

I've had many saws, and currently Makita 18v (may even be the same one) but it never wanders, new or old blade

The 18v Makita saw we have came with a fairly coarse blade which didn't last too long before going dull. We replaced it with a finer toothed Freud blade which has lasted for ages plus it gives the saw an easier time!
