Making your own tools

This really isn't that technical in the grand scheme of things but I'm strangely chuffed with my lastest little creation.

Background: Soon I will want to cut out several circles in MDF and I don't have access to a router, or table saw, or anything other than a jigsaw actually.
I want to cut accurate, repeatable rings so I made this:

It's 3 pieces, one has to be detachable to get it on and off. On and I'll replace the two screws at the back end with rivets once I find some.

I tapped some existing holes in the base to accept an M4 allen head bolt, then filed them down flush.

I'm yet to make the arm, but that will basically a flat piece of steel with a hole either end spacing the jigsaw to the desired diameter.

I'm love to say I 'knocked this up' but it took an embarrassingly long time in reality

Superb! I have a couple of things like that, the meatiest being the flywheel puller for a mini engine. My version of that for my router sits under the workbench, lying in wait for more MDF to circle-ise. I made a series of round mirror frames from plywood, quite good fun really.

It's only small but as I say, I'm strangely chuffed with it even though I've not tested it yet. In my head I see no reason for it not to work...famous last words?

I found some rivets and got the arm mounted; I've made a mark that's 100mm from the blade and I'll make the pilot hole from that for whatever radius circle I need to cut.

thanks for that but theres a lot of peope on here with a lot more knowlege than me its nice some times to make tools to a good standard and use them. other times tools are crudly made but efective and do the job ive learnt a fair bit by what others are making on here its a good forum with a vast variety of technical info from all the members and there trades
