I’d love some tractor mounted kit, but I’d need the use of a half decent tractor, not the 1979 2140 that’s held together with bale band.
FIL went with a digger mounted knocker, despite my protests, sadly the digger isn’t really man enough or big enough for it and I’ve tipped it over twice already - bearing in mind we're “hill” farmer nothing is level or easy access.
Longest pull we, errr I do, is 120m generally it’s 100m between strainers. Plenty of gates for moving sheep, and a couple of level changes. Working with 100m rolls, tie off at the top and let gravity take the roll down the hill with a gentle push, I think I’ve used 18 rolls so far, all high tensile, plenty of straining wire and at least 2 buckets of staples.
Hung 12 gates with 6 left to do, plus working out how best to pen them up so we can pull them through for shearing, weighing, medication etc..
I welded brackets for my son in law to digger mount the post knocker, 6 ton digger, it works well, just takes forever to get to the start of the job.
With posts lucky to last 5 years with eco treatment, guess a really nimble knocker for post replacment is a good thing.
Ive about 450 meters to do this year, think Ill try creosoted posts. And where ever possible pull with the tractor.
