again if they went to the expense of designing it , making them and fitting them it must do something .

True. I'm sure Jaguar know what they're doing!
Well, they did when those were in production. Now, I'm not so sure...

Doesn't look substantial enough to do anything much anyway! That can't be structural surely.

Wouldn't be the first time the underbody had to be substantially braced when some smart-**** in the marketing dept pushed for a ragtop version, on a design that was never meant for it.

Not in this case, it was designed as a convertible, the chassis performance of both was always terrible on track.
