Makes to go for/avoid?

Is there any particular makes to go for or avoid?

I recently started a short course and noticed that the majority or people there were doing MMA (am I missing something here?) and thought I'd check the likes of eBay/Gumtree for a cheap MMA or better mig (mines only a 90amp).
There seems to be quite a few that look/sound cheap, but then there the likes of Merlin's which I have no idea of.

So what's to avoid and am I missing a trick with all the MMA?

You're best looking around here to get a feel for it, and in fact, probably best hanging around for a deal on the used section where you can see the machine and probably test it out.

What type of machine do you want and what's your budget, what do you want to use it for?

What do you plan to weld most, car body work or heavier steel (angle iron and/or plate)???

You need to decide whether you are going for MMA or MIG before worrying about types of MMA or MIG, or makes.
