Make or buy gabions ?

Just had a quick look and a lot of IBC cage are made out of thing galv tube so probably wouldn't last very long seeing pics on eBay show them rusty by just being outside never mind in the ground.

Shame as liked that idea.

Next is what about IBC containers ?

Using hole saw make loads of drainage holes then fill with rubble & soil. Clad visible face with decking or even cheap fencing panels.
So what's the opinion of IBC's ? Would they bulge out, go brittle / split etc ?

Next is what about IBC containers ?

unless they have the tops on they dont stay in shape well, at least filled with water they dont. Maybe if the majority of the top was left ie 18" square cut out for filling ,then it would work. It is the sun that kills them, maybe if they are fenced on the visable side to keep uv off them, they certainly wont get any uv underground !
If the bit beyond the wall is for vegetables then let them fill with water in the voids between the rocks each will hold say 200 ltrs that is then about 2600 ltrs of water storage, have the taps ready outward to drain off into the ground when there is dry spell ?
With the frames there are a lot out there that are just mesh as show in the picture, that is the type the guy with the logs used, I agree the tube ones are consumable that is why I didnt mention them

This is the shape they go when lid is cut off made this using ibc 7 years ago ish for swim excercising my dog, vet said he had joint damge but was cancer !! now use it for washing down the yard was going to make aframe for it in the todo list has not shown any deterioration and as you can see by the colour of the water get plenty of uv.
strange somedays it is crystal clear !! BTW holds about 600 ltrs

Thinking again ton bags stay in shape because on the compressive quality of the gravel so maybe the cut ibc would stay in shape.
