Make a list of jobs and plan your time, what do you do.

Father has said why dont I make a list of the things to do this year as it might help me to stop getting bogged down with projects, his thinking is start one thing get it finished before moving on to the next, so here goes in order of priority.

1 service the ride on mowers ready for the season 1.days work

2 Get me van conversion finished ready for the sun 1 weekends work.

3 have a good hit on the pizza oven probably got a month or two before the weathers good enough to eat out.1 weeks work

4 Finnish me shepherds hut 3-4 weeks evening and weekends

5 Put a new clutch in my 350z have it remapped 1 weekend

6 Finish the mobile outside 4 posted ramp 1 weeks work

7 Get some time in on the Jeep later in the year, ongoing

8 Make a start on mothers MG restoration late October so its in for the winter.

Now if i can stick to that with along with a the time for the girl friend a holiday and everything else I need to do I will be a happy bunny..

Ime the same as brightspark...i used to be ocd getting stuff done to a plan and it made my life miserable so now i do it when i do it...Work life is another matter and must be regimental to succeed without hiccups

as above. I look at a days work and say I will get it all done in a set time. each part of day a set amount must get done or it will be behind so have to get a mush on to get it finished . im pretty accurate to keep a job bang on time even by a few minutes

Totally agree work lifes work life, but nothing I hate more than going into the shop in the morning without a plan from the night before otherwise I get so distracted with other things, what I should be doing dont get done because I end up playing with something else, if you know what I mean.

I have a large white board on the wall. If there's summat I need to do or remember it goes on that. It's a trick I learned in site after forgetting to order skips etc.

I do similar, but use a note book, still forget now and then though.

Exactly, but thats the privilage of being retired.

I keep meaning to make a list but never seem to get round to it, must make a mental note to make making list the first thing on the list.

Sounds familiar I started the shepherds hut 3 years ago it started well got the chassis done and flooring done started building the wall sections then it rained and all stopped it has sat under cover since then, I started the pizza oven last spring hut got the steel frame done then the concrete slab done started to cut the bricks for the dome then got distracted lol I took my 350 off the road must be 2 years ago to do the clutch woops been ste there ever since, you are right there's always tomorrow lol

Spot on how I work. Always a bit peaved when things go tits up and I end up behind.

If I have to think of all the stuff I need to do I need to go lay down in a darkened room.

I work unusually long hard days seven days a week (my choice) and sometimes things slip between the cracks. I will probably have to start working nights in order to keep my head above water!

What I really need to do is start saying no or putting my prices up. I call it "reactive management". I once subcontracted to a company and it was a while before I discovered my unofficial job title was Fireman. When I queried this I was told "It's because you run around putting out all the burning people". I still can't work out whether or not that was a compliment.

When it comes to projects, unfinished jobs, I do what I want and when I fancy doing it.
I dont make plans like that, I find something unexpected usually crops up if you plan things.

Self motivation is my biggest asset.
Its also why I don't do well working as a team. Get ****** off when people dont pull there weight

My exact week dont normally go out on jobs but did for a special customer he had had a crew there just wouldn't pull there weight peed me off job took twice as long and I missed out on play time in the shop

I'm retired and my maxim is never put off till tomorrow what you can leave for a week. I'll not put a list of unfinished stuff up cos I'm going to bed in a bit.

I feel like one of those blokes spinning plates. Got 300 of them all spinning at the same time but if I turn my back for a second the whole lot comes crashing down!
When I was younger time was meaningless - now it is the most precious thing there is. Just wish I was Dr Who!
