Mains through letterbox

So, was looking at the lawnmower type connections but rated at 10 amp, is this enough or am I being a cautious Colin?

If you're that concerned you could use C19 and C20 plugs and sockets. They are like a kettle lead but a bit bigger and rated for 16A

It's a reel. Might get away with a double socket, just really wondering what the alternatives are.

It's a reel.

Make up a short lead that goes from house socket to just outside letterbox. Plug reel into that lead.

If you used a Neutrik Powercon plug and socket and remove the plug form the reel, you could make the item coilable onto the the reel.

Live to the knocker, neutral to the handle, earth to the letterbox. Strip the ends of the external wires and wrap them around. Tell the postie always to use the doorbell.

I like that and as you know, he always rings twice so that'll be an end to that annoying habit.

I was looking for a solution that might suit any occasion (not everyone has a socket in the hallway etc) so the c19/20 as mentioned above looks the favourite.

Standard IEE Form Sockets to IP67 onto some artic blue 2.5mm would surely be enough (unless it's a 200A+ transformer welder)?

Please try to poke one through your letterbox, which is the main requirement of the OP.

A standard 3 pin UK plug will not go through a standard UK letterbox. A standard 3 pin trailing socket will go through, but it is on the wrong end of the lead.

Swap the plug and socket over on the ends of the flex


Or poke it through the other way

It's a reel.

I ditched mine, wall hanging takes less space and I got fed up with having to unroll the entire thing everytime I wanted to use it, to prevent twisting I usually pass it over my hand one way then the other so there are loops hanging down either side of my hand, there are other ways.
