Magic Eye profiler ,

Em just wondering do any of you guys have any experience with a magic eye cutter. Ive went out and bought one , got it cheap as the guy said that it wasnt working.Problem was that the cog on the left to right motor had come loose and was just spinning freely on the shaft.I got that sorted but now i whenever i try to get it to follow a template it will recognise the line but then just resets the reading head back into the fence on the left hand side of the machine.Ive double checked the height of the reader and its 28mm ,exactly what it says it should be in the manual.Anyone have any ideas , Machine i have is a Burny 610 .Cheers lads

yes both me and hitch use/own the bloody things, as you can tell success is well limited, the problem with em is they follow, shadows, creases and beams of light normally anything but the line you want it too, the proper pens for them produce a double line that the eye is supposed to go up the cent re of, a thick line on the paper helps although this does make the edge wonder, i also have used coloured paper it makes it less susceptible to shadows.......

I keep looking out for a cheep CNC driven table instead......

We had a similar profiler until a couple of years ago. As Snowy has already said, they will follow anything except the line you want. We found that the lines had to be very black - ink rather than pencil - and the drawing had to be stored flat so there were no creases. It didn't seem to like any drawings printed off of an ink-jet printer either, so in the end we produced manual drawings for all our profiles. Eventually we gave up and bought the profiles in! Our requirements have increased recently so we are now considering a new cnc plasma.

We use pilot pens, proper black as black ink.

Top ones on this page, produce a nice wide line for it to follow.

Assuming your paper is clean, flat, secure...



Our machine is a Shapecut, it has a couple of switches,
one is 'Inch', theres also a 'Straight line' and 'reverse'

Does yours have similar switches? try it without cutting, just various combinations of switches....

The other thing that springs to mind, if the gear was loose, is why was it loose...?
If it kept going back to the track, would this have caused the gearwheel to come loose...?

I cant remember whats inside the machine, but they are far from complex.

another thing is to thicken the line on the corners this makes em less inclined to want to go back the other way.....

I think that the gear was loose because it came out of a training workshop , and you know what kids are capable of.It cant break the gear by returning anyways as there is limit switches on all axis.Im using a selection of the templates that came with the machine so they shouldbe sound

scanner problems

hi have sent you through a copy of the sample drawing that we use to set up the scanners we find the best ink is from a normal photo copying machine.The line should be around 0.7mm or you can use a silhouette and depending on the speed that you will be cutting at you might have to increase the line widgth at the corners But these are a great scanner.there are alot of other things and setting you can change 1 is the bulb they have a life of 5000 hours but not had to change one yet.got all the manuals if you get to stuck but last time i looked on burnys web site you could down load manuals.
