MagCode connectors?.

Has anyone on here got any experience with MagCode connectors?.

I've twice now set off in the car and managed to rip my Optimate lead out forgetting to disconnect it.

These MagCode connectors are nigh on £50 but if they can stand up to outside elements that's worth it for me.

They look like extremely expensive pogo pins in a plastic housing, which come in up to 20a capacity and cost about 10 quid for 50...

What current does your optimate draw? my wallet is more drawn to something like this, the 15a version should cope with the 6A a optimate 6 puts out peak for eg.

I did look at those, I have gone over to Noco 10 amp charger but kept the Optimate SAE wiring.

Might order a set and see what the quality is like.

My Mrs has done the same. CTEK leads are stronger than you think.

I'd be worried about the magnetic ones rusting (never tried them so no idea if they will, just my worry)

how do you have it wired up? wire sticking out from under the bonnet/boot/door?


I'd use something like... https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/314828206168 and then fix it down or a bit of steel wire through the fixing holes so if you drive away it pulls apart...

but the Anderson style connectors can be a bit stiff if you're plugging/unplugging them all the time it would be a pain

I had a look for something else in that style - where it would be easy to tie it so something to pull it apart but can't see much - maybe someone else will have an idea

Lawnmower plug & socket?
Not particularly waterproof but cheap to replace.


Must be plenty of other types like this that will pull apart without much force?
You could always use the housing screws in the above to attach cable/rope to pull them apart before straining the wires.

Maybe do a search on here as I remember a thread on this, I think that involved 3d printing a magnetic connector.
Should be easy enough to do, you could incorporate an o-ring or seal if you wanted weatherproof or just use corrosion proof terminals in the design.
