made me think today 5 speed Toyota g/box into a lotus 7

I have finished all the adaptions on the BMC bell housing to get it to fit the Toyota box. that involved a lot of machining on the miller. Next was getting a speedo to work. all to tight in a lotus seven so i machined down the original bodying cut a new 26 TPI thread on it so i could fit the right angle drive the only way to do it also had to make a new drive piece for the right angle drive to fit the drive outlet of the Toyota box. And it all works better to be lucky than good some times. LOL

Its a 1959 car it runs a climax. The owner has a holiday home in france and he likes to take the seven. So overdrive 5th will help on the continental roads.

I put a Toyota box into my 1275 MG Midget III. That was a relatively simple swap because the guy I got the kit from just provided a replacement back plate that matched the engine and gear box. There were a couple of other changes to the mountings but otherwise it all looks original. Much better than the BMC box, quieter, synchro on all gears and 5-speed.

My only niggle (that I still haven't got round to fixing after more than 10 years) is that the mounting position on the back plate for the starter motor must be slightly out. I think that the starter bendix gear is too close to the flywheel gear because it tends to jam if the engine is hot when you try to restart it.
