Great minds and all that
I got one last month but at 5kw it will take more than one to heat the place up even with all the insulation I have put in. I was thinking along the lines of something large and reasonablt quite to quickly warm it up and the little Chinese Diesel heater can keep it up to temperature. Trust me when I say my mrs can be a bit cold blooded. And when shes cold she don't go

for the size you have unless you have a smaller seating area not a chance warming that size of place
maybe for a sitting area close to the fires but not when training in the wide area
if this is the size of are your trying to heat up
a wood stove and a diesel heater working together would do then swap to diesel heater
you do know that a diesel heater can provide hot water as well

According to research I have done I will need between 6 and 8 KW of heat to warm this building up with the level of insulation installed.
Plan A (cheapest)
5KW Chinese Diesel heater 20KW Diesel Infra Red heater for burst heating. cost £450 if it doesn't work can be used in my Machine Shed (next project after I finish this one).
Plan B
Run underground pipes from existing under utilised central heating system (20meters) and install radiators. Down side is that I want to use the building the boiler is in for holiday lets next year and don't want the boiler (in kitchen) running all the time. £1K
Plan C
New Oil boiler and radiators £2.5K+
Wood fires/stoves require user interaction. Not gonna happen......

are you on mains electric? (not sure because might be out in the sticks?)
if so... and it's only for intermittent use, you might as well just go with electric heating - a heat pump will come out cheaper than oil in the warmer months and there's no mess/hassle... easy for your wife to turn it on/off, set a timer... or you can always set up a remote so you can turn it on/off with a mobile phone (got wifi close by?)
later on, you could always add solar panels to the roof, cancel out some of the electric cost

Yes but I am trying to avoid using electric cause when i am using the plasma cutter and compressor there is not much left of a 100 amp supply.

seen as you plan to do holiday flats an alternative is a heat store feeding the buildings when needed it combines one system into many systems providing heat to many
its worth considering but its a high initial cost at first but in the long run could pay off
its also feasible to create a boiler house on its own

Thanks CJ that really good of you but after today's revelation I dont think I am gonna need it. It appears I am moving on to plan B. I put a 10KW propane heater in the shed and according to her that will be obeyed it is TOO loud. At 62db its quieter than the Clarke jobbie so that puts paid to that idea.
As for plan B have we got any heating engineers on here. I need to run a flow and return pipe 35 meters from the boiler to the new radiators. Can I get away with 22mm or will I have to go bigger?
On a much more positive note I have spent the day painting. I dug out my old Wagner paint crew and spent an hour or so getting it working after a 10 year layoff. 30 mins masking and an hour and a half later 30 litres of paint on the wall and ceiling and off to the store to get some more - much more as I am only 2/3 first coat. I had forgotten just how quick these things put paint on a surface and how much paint they use.

22mm is enough but id go for 25mm polypipe for heating systems

Its a good idea for the future when the coffers have been restocked, I am trying to save a bit of dosh so I can finish the other project which will be my Machine Shed. Hopefully no more nasty cold handles.
Unfortunately, not all builders are created equal and the one I used to do the floor had a very different concept to mine as to what level is. When I have finished her training room I will turn my attention to it and hope that I don't have to rip it up and start again as 9 ton of screed was not cheap.
