Had a machine in for repair this afternoon, a Butters AMT1800, only 18 months old.
"Everythings working, wire feed etc. but no arc", were the symptoms.
OK I thought, no exactly what that is & I had the spares on the shelf, hour of a job at most.
Upon examination, however, it was not at all what I thought it would be. Turned out to be a knackered earth clamp! The wire to the clamp was hanging by a thread & the clamp itself was kaputt. I covered this just the other day but was surprised myself that there wasn't any kind of spark; justs underlines what I said about the importance of a good earth.
