theres allways one or even more .the railway crossing lights got stuck on red but the barriers went up after 5 mins people were just sailing through in cars. some pausing and the queue was getting longer so folks were pipping horns then the overtaking started double white lines on the crossing and a train sat in the station but on it went /then a coach with punters on overtook cars and went through zigzaging then the old bill arrived and stopped it. if a train had come the other way full speed that would have been it .i have a camera facing the crossing i should have taken the bus number rang the firm up and given them the disk showing it

I've seen similar. The same kind of eejits who stop all round the roundabouts because there are roadworks further up the road - it's the roundabout at the bottom of the hill that goes up to the local A&E - the local ambulance crews have had to be a little aggressive to get through on blues and twos runs

I'm a train driver and there is one particular level crossing in our area that is always abused. The signaller controls it and uses CCTV to check its clear before giving the train a green signal once the barriers are down. I regularly see cars and pedestrians running through when the red stop lights are flashing. Have reported a few lately as it's only a matter of time before someone gets whacked by a train. You don't hear a train until its generally too late!

Unless I'm missing something, you can't expect people to sit there indefinitely until the lights are fixed. If the barrier went up then the danger of a train coming was past yes? A malfunction caused the lights to remain lit, is that what you're saying?

how would you know then that the danger of a train coming had past??.. i think brightspark was spot on and should have contacted the coach company, and, the police should be seeking the procecution of the idiot coach driver in any case, if they have the vehicle details, baffles me as to what is so important in life that some drivers can not wait 5 - 10mins in a traffic jam and risk causing injury or death through their impatient actions

You hit the nail on the head , impatience is it .... where I live in the East end of Crete we have 3 sets of traffic lights ... if I Taxi some of my elderly nieghbors into town on market day,and the lights at the bottom of the hill are red ... they get dead narky...like the world is gonna end ....jeff..

Nobody on the road knows how many trains are coming. Taking a chance because the barriers have lifted is precisely that - taking a chance.

Doing it with a load of passengers (the coach) is particularly ludicrous.

No argument! Or at least, I wouldn't want to be in the shoes of anybody attempting to argue that the coach driver doesn't have a duty of care to fare paying passengers.


Morally it's so wrong to put other lives at risk as well.

well another silly day , a coach going over the crossing real slow just to say gets across and stops with his back end under the barrier and starts letting people off . a car inadvertently followed him across and was stuck on the track pipping his horn to the knob bus driver to move on , i know u shouldnt enter a box junction or a crossing till its clear but u dont expect a bus to let people off on the flamin crossing when ten yards on theres a pull in

Round here if a bus stops away from an official stop there are insurance problems if a passenger has an accident getting on or off, local bus company has sacked drivers if caught.

Local to where I used to live, a school bus driver crossed against the lights (no barriers) and got hit. About 15 kids and the driver were killed. Turned out he regulary 'beat' the lights, but what caught him out was it was an unscheduled maintainance train traveling faster than the regular train that would have stopped just up the line. Presumably he thought he was clever.

when the lights go to yellow on the crossing u can hear the cars drop a gear and fly across regular . sometimes theres a road speed camera parked just up road from it and the transport police sometimes sit and watch also

Ive seen coach drivers do stupid things you wouldnt believe too. We had a junction exit blocked off on a motorway works once doing a lane switchover and cctv trained through the area to early spot breakdowns causing danger because it was single lane running during the switch, and a coach drove past and reversed up the still open on-slip, with a coach load of pensioners on board. On cctv. Which was made available to the police. While you might think badly about someone doing that in a private vehicle, driving a psv full of people, should have gone to jail. This will have been about 15 years back now, so not a new phenomena.
