I have just completed the restoration of an old America ‘Delta 220’ pillar drill. These were brought over in some numbers to the UK during WWII under the brand name Tauco. I’ve not yet measured the run out, but I’m optimistic it will be a lot less than my Chinese drill.
One slight niggle with it; the spring return to raise the drill back up in to the headstock is not working well; it pulls it back up a little then sticks, but it only takes the slightest touch to push it right back up. Possible causes seem to be;

- The return spring needs replacing (hard to find new parts)
- The return spring needs more pre-tension on it ( it has quite a lot on, and I don’t want to break it)
- The grease I used in re-assembly is too thick, and in the cold garage, offers too much resistance to sliding.
