Lotus Cortina

Had a play this w/end to see if it was posable to shorten a std GT strut to lotus Cortina MK 1 length as i have to spare ones of the same side so i need two of the other side, so i cut up an old GT one as it has the disc brake forging. It has been a successful weekend of learning how ford put them together, so got to look out for some GT struts with good stub axles.

What do you do for the internals of the shocker? years ago i used to use the Monroe gas inserts when i played with fords.

Spax are available but if i can get Koni i would use them

I remember reading an article in Practical Classics years a go where they removed the spring seat and welded a threaded section over the tube so the ride height was adjustable. It was a kit they fitted to a Capri.

I also remember how the Lotus 'production' cars had the struts angled enough that the top ends were very close to the block...

Down at Brands Hatch, I watched a great dice between Jackie Oliver in a Mustang and Jim Clark in the works Lotus. JO had to work his way though the pack after a duff practice, finally cleared it an chased down Clark. But, could not get closer than about 50 mtrs. The Lotus was beginning to trail a slight bit of smoke, but Clark held him off to the finish.
I found out just after that the Mustang was owned by my cousin Paddy. Small world.
