lost tools..what have you lost ?

So what tools have you lost lately ? I was using my impact socket set just before christmas , always put all the sockets back in the abs case , used to change front discs on thel200 before its mot . which it passed. Now went to pick them up and nowhere to be found ! searched hi and low ......so what tool have you recently used that s gone awol , apart from the 10mm socket that is !

They don’t really get lost around here, it’s more like they don’t get put back where they were. They do turn up but not where you expect to find them. It’s the reason there are yard tools and the ones in the man cave stay under lock and key.

I lost a 7/16 1/2” Stahlwille spanner back in the late 80’s working on a horrible Austin Ambassador.

I’m still ****** off about it!

I put stuff down briefly turn away for a mo and it disappears into some dimensional black hole, never to be seen again (well... until I don't need it anymore)

In 1966 I drove off in my Messerschmitt KR200 Roadster with a 10 x 11mm ring spanner hanging under the bolt-on front wing. It was one of only two metric spanners that I owned at that time, and even now I miss it. I do still have the 13 x 14mm one.

I lost a set of teng side cutters in the hay field, searched in vain without luck but they turned up 2 harvests later a bit rusty, wasnt too worried as they were rubbish but its not the point!

When I lived in the far east I lost the little insert thing out of a specially bought and imported brake pipe flaring kit, the bit for doing double flare end things. One second it was there, in the box on the bench, next it had gone.

I scoured the bench top, the floor, moved everything to one end of the garage, got my wife and daughter out there with their far better eyes. No sign of it, so I moved everything back to the other end, scoured the floor again. Checked all over the bench, checked my pockets, stripped off shook my clothes..... nothing.

It has basically disappeared while I was halfway through plumbing the brakes on the hot rod I was building, so I was stuck until I eventually managed to borrow one. Even when we moved house and the garage was emptied, everything put in boxes, it was never found.

Not quite the same but I lost a set of keys, including the coded car key in my own house. I live alone, I can't get into the house without them so they can only have been lost by me, somewhere inside the house. Cost a fortune to have the car recoded and all keys replaced. I'm still here 15 years later and they are yet to turn up

As for losing tools, if I manage to go to my garden workshop and do any job from start to finish without losing anything, I get a fuzzy warm feeling.

I have lost a few bits , over the years, fixing tractors and machines, in fields. Usually lose something , then fid something, that someone else, has left previously, on another machine.
Apprentice, has a habit , of just putting stuff away , in random places. Got him learned to just leave everything, beside toolbox, now . At least then I know everything is back in van.

I hate loosing tools and as I get older iam sure it's happening more frequently. Finding something after a year or two is always nice I did a clutch on a ford tractor last year and laying in the bellhousing was a britool 9/16af spanner which i left there 16 years earlier.

very similar.....
a guy I knew well in SW France, he just disapeared....nobody knew where he was.....he lived in the middle of nowhere....liked his drink.........
meanwhile it was grass growing season, like 4ft tall.....the daughter took over and got a contractor in to cut the grass....were talking an acre for his front garden.....
thats when they found what was left of his body....skin and bone everything else had melted or been eaten by maggots....
not a nice way to go.....
still use some of his tools and Mrs clogs has some very nice flower pots, which we brought here....

I recently lost a 3/4 drive 13mm socket and 200mm extension in a grain store working above the grain, looked for it for ages even went magnet fishing in it to try and find it but alas no good, I was a bit miffed!
Anyhoo I got home and took my work gear off only to find them in my leg side screwdriver pocket

Snap-On 13mm ratchet combo spanner.
Although technically not “lost” as I know where it is, but the chances of finding it now are pretty slim.
its residing on the bottom of a lake (reservoir ) approximately 50 metres deep so unlikely to find it.
