Lost freesat signal

Hi,
Any satellite receiver experts on here?
I have two tv’s one in the lounge, one in the bedroom. The one in the lounge with a built in freesat receiver lost its signal after the intense rain the other night (DVB is ok) The one in the bedroom is ok but gets its signal via a satellite box. Both get their respective signals from a quad LNB/dish
My question is will the freesat receiver in the lounge tv have been damaged, I know the LNB gets its power supply from the receiver & Im guessing the cable has been shorted by the rain?

Have you tried unplugging the TV for 5 mins to see if it'll "reboot" ? Our SKY box locks up sometimes and this is what cures the problem.

Could try moving the cable(s) from the tv to another outlet(s) on the lnb.

Also, have you checked the signal levels? The box could be more sensitive than the tv so a shade more tolerant if the dish shifted slightly in the wind - but it'd still show a lower signal if that's the case.

The TV is showing zero signal at present. I am going to move the cable to another output on the LNB today to see if that cures problem just hope no damage has been done. Thought I’d effectively sealed the connection against water by painting it with liquid “electricians tape”

You want to use self-amalgamating tape at the LNB end.

Take the cable off the receiver. You'll soon know if you've had water down the coax. If there's been ingress to the receiver, yes, it can knacker the receiver.

When sealing a connection like that outside, self amalgamating tape is the stuff to use.

Check the rotation on the LNB. Ours came loose in the clamp and the signal quality had dropped to nearly zero.

Just reboot the receivers.

When you say receiver do you mean the LNB? I’ve taken the cable off & the outer shielding looks tarnished but the central wire is shiny bright. Not sure why amalgamating tape would be any better than liquid “electricians tape”

PVC tape shrinks and comes off, leaving a sticky mess behind. S/A tape forms a rubber boot. However, you need neither because the LNB has a pull down shield to cover the connectors unless it is very old.

Or silicone grease, both when you fit the connector to the cable and when you insert it into the socket.

I've used self-amalgamating tape on an aerial downlead before and had issues. Silicone grease is the best thing to use. It will stop the ingress of all water, be it liquid or vapour.

What I’ve used is a liquid, it hardens to form a solid around the connnector, it’s not a tape per say.

If you've had issues with a SA taped connection, the cause is down to the installer and not the tape. Never had a single problem with one of my seals, but seen plenty due to poorly applied tape.

Epilogue
Remade the joint to the LNB & normal service returned. Corrosion of sheathing seems to have been the problem.Still debating how to weatherproof joint.
