Er no, I don't have any Imperial dies that big (18tpi and about 9/16").

Not a problem; I'll just use a different lathe

I found some information on t'internet for my imperial lathe which gave the combinations that came close to metric and the variance thereof, usually within a few percent. For the length you'd need to turn, it probably wouldn't make any difference, assuming you can find the similar information for your lathe.

Thanks... as usual I was making more of the issue than there really is for dramatic effect
I actually have two lathes, one's a Boxford with Metric gearbox and the other's a Colchester with the dual Imperial/Metric 'box (although it only offers a fraction of the Metric threads that the Boxie does - no pun intended ). Slight problem is that the lathes are 12 miles apart and I did the job here rather than at our lass's place.
Just to add a bu99eration, Boxford changed the gearbox ratios on this model so the Metric/ Imperial conversion gear is a special and I've never found one going cheap... £78 from a particular supplier but for the number of times I'd use it, it's not worth it. Mind it wasn't exactly cheaper to buy a spare lathe

if were admitting our flaws my usual one is getting the work piece perfectly level and clamped with 20 clamps and magnets contorting myself into a weird position then forgetting to earth it and poking it out of shape with the wire

Sounds like you guys have blond moments that are of little consequence.. three weeks ago I was using Path Clear to kill off some nettles & young brambles at the back of my fence and after a couple of cans of Path Clear all was done.
There is a small patch of horsetail by the front access so I decided I'd use it up there and see if it does the job .
As I walked back past the green house past the veg beds on my way to the front ... I " watered the three year old asparagus bed .

Every cloud has a silver lining .. I didn't want the grass there any more for it blocks a lot of light out the greenhouse when it's fully grown .
New seeds were sown the same afternoon... Good job I did as well , for today I dug the bed over and none of the plants have survived. Still once the toxic effect to plant life clears in about six months we will have a fantastic 36 inch high raised herb bed to plant up..
