A mate brought round a shaft from a slide hammer. Essentially a length of steel round bar with a thread cut on each end; one end's thread was damaged.
Not to worry, says I, I'll turn off the damaged thread, rethread to slightly smaller and knock up an acetal insert for the handle, then swap ends.
So I cracked me knuckles, fired up the lathe.. and machined the wrong bloody thread off.
