Loosing coolant.

I don't go far in our seat alahambra it hardly gets up to temp most weeks.

After a long trip today i noticed a wet patch under the car and the coolant tank was empty.

Its leaking from the flange on the return to the rad. I've changed the o ring but its still leaking .

Could the plastic part be knackered?

Its a AFN 1.9 110hp.

that is the temp sensor mate that sensor has 4 wires going to it if I am correct If it was me I would replace the sensor o ring and clip

The temp sensor is new ish, Its leaking from where the plastic housing (the temp sensor plugs in to) connect to the engine.

Maybe its a bad angle two bolts go through this into the block. You can see a wet patch where it connect to the engine.

I removed it and replaced the O ring.

is it possible it cracked or the o ring didnt locate correctly or it was over or under tightened or incorrect size o ring

some nice rtv or high temp silicon will sort that out if it is

I did not remove it completely to inspect, just slipped the o ring in and tightened it up. Could not find the correct torque in the haynes manual so just nipped it up with a 1/4 inch ratchet. I will drain the coolant and pull it right out tomorrow.

yes i would slide the 2 hoses off and remove the sensor and dont brake the clip and check it out

For the first 4 years i had this car it never got up to temp, decided to change the thermostat and everything started leaking.

Had very bloodied knuckles getting this coolant pipe out, i thought it was job done . Fuel was leaking from the fuel pump think it mangled the pipes.

Since changing the thermostat and damaged coolant pipes she has been loosing a little coolant but nothing like the amount lost today. Will have a good look at it tomorrow. I have some silicon sealant its a Spanish brand good to 180º??

over tightening those o rings is just as bad as under tightening them

The worst has happened i cant fix the car today so in in-laws have had to take the golf to Barcelona . I usually don't let anyone drive it.

The flange is cracked, the crack runs from one of the bolt holes through to the centre.

Next problem i need to get the car out of the garage as last time i parked the golf on the street someone keyed it.

Can i run it without coolant, just to get it out of the garage up the drive and on to the road?

part is ordered will pick it up tomorrow.
