looking to start a project- go kart or similar

has anyone done a go kart or mini bike type project,
or have seen any on line builds

i would like to make something me and my brother can enjoy without the need for road tax

got to many cars already

i've started a go kart, and only have the wiring harness and brake/gas cables to hook up.

most of my parts came from an older riding lawnmower, so i'm not quite sure how well it will do. here's a pic, let me know if you need any more info! (by the way, this was all seat-of-the-pants)

im having problems finding decent wheels, i made a rubbish one that was belt drive with a wooden chassis, didnt work very well


anyone have any ideas how i can make a rear axle to incorporate bearings? cheaply

Clip, can I suggest a mod? cut the motor supports shorter so the engine is closer to the chassis. The engine is probably the second heaviest thing on the kart, so getting it lower will make a significant difference to the centre of gravity and make it less prone to roll over!

I'd ditch that seat and find something lighter too, maybe even just an old plastic school type chair, the lighter the better.

I love the Street Kart (1962). Those were the days. Stick lights and indicators on your kart to make it "roadworthy" and then drive it round the world. I don't think that would go down so well nowadays

the levels were for running the shift linkage, the seat doesn't weigh too much, but i wish i had a plastic chair or something similar.

as for the engine being too high, i can't find a way to lower it because of how the transaxle sits.
