Looking for special M10 studs.

I thought it would be a simple search but no, cant find 'em!

I need some double ended M10 x 1.5 studs (like exhaust studs) with a thread length on the screw in end of 25 mm or so, plain portion in the middle and an overall length of something around 75mm. Needs to be HT steel.

All the ones I can see only have a thread of 1 to 1.5 x dia. or longer ones are stainless.

I will probably have to get some longer ones and die them/cut them down, but I don't really want to do that if I can buy them!

Not quite the same but I needed 80 stainless m10 studs for chemical anchoring some balustrade I’m currently fitting at home, the only ones I could find were too long and mega bucks (about £1.80 each). So, I got a few lengths of stainless threaded bar, chopped to length, inserted into cordless drill chuck, spun them against bench grinder wheel then bench wire wheel for couple of seconds to clean them up. All now in and saved about £100.

We get them from a marine company, for attaching prop shaft couplings.

I'll try and get a photo and measurements at work tomorrow.

Assuming 1.5 is the standard M10 thread ?

Edit: they're probably max 50mm long. Not 75mm.

You probably use the stainless ones Mat. They are available but i cannot find high tensile ones.

The reason I need them is that the animals at work keep ripping out the castings the studs go into because the threads are only about 12mm long.

Stainless can be surprisingly strong. In a lot of these tests stainless actually won!

Sounds like all you need is some studding and a spacer/collar. You could even make/find a threaded 25mm section and threadlock it or glue it if needs be. Depends what it's for...

As said, I can probably die some longer ones down a bit but not ideal.
I thought they would be easy to find as surely its better to have a longer fixing thread in softer materials.

They are the same as any standard stud, with one end having 1.5 x dia. of thread. For some reason he wants a stud with a long threaded section both ends.

Having an extra long threaded section gives no benefits. Have a read up on how fasteners fail. The first thread carries about 1/3 of the total load, with it tapering off rapidly after that. See page 8 here: http://gmcws.org/blog/wp-content/uploads/jim-rowe-fastener-presentation.pdf

sorry Bob, they are standard studs.

I need a longer thread because, as I wrote above, the guys at work either rip the short thread out of the machine castings or strip the thread off the stud because they are doing the nuts up too tight.

Stainless will be a nightmare to get out as the threads will mangle if no anti seize paste is used…I would rather use 12.9 tensile strength bolts cut to size.

The stud is not going to solve your problem. Actually you have two problems, both involving tools. The tool being used for tightening is unsuitable if it is able to apply sufficient torque to produce this undesirable result. That one is easy to solve: cut 2/3 off the length of the spanner or buy a torque wench (sic). The second problem is more difficult to solve: it is hard to modify the tool wielding the tool.
