Looking for bit of help first mig welder

Hi all

Been offered a sealey MIGHTYMIG150, it's only a few months old I'm told, it's from a friend of a friend. I only want one that will help me weld a few plates onto my land-rover discovery 1 300tdi. Will this do the job? Will be mainly 1/5mm thick plate I will be using to remove rust patches etc over the steel chassis and body work.

5mm is heavy for a disco mate. I use 3mm most of the time. 6mm for my winch tray. Just might be cheaper and easier to work. Good to see another one being rescued

Yea should have explained bit better, most of work will be inner arches etc which will be about 1/2mm plate I think, the 5mn I was looking at making a heavy duty rear bumper for it

Not sure if to post in here or start a new thread, but I have bought the above welder now lad only wanted £40 for it to get it out the way as he is off to Australia to live as of this weekend.

Any he showed it me working but just with flux core wire and no gas, now I want to run it with gas but it's got no connection regulator etc

So what would I need to get it to run off a standard gas bottle not the little ones. Also any ideas where I could get spare tips and shrouds etc from it?

i think you just need one of these

then cut off the quickfit fitting from the end of the pipe and attach pipe to barb on back of welder using a jubilee clip

Looking at bottle most are side entry so I guess it is the one you have linked to.

Anyone recommend a good wire and tips to get?
Got mask and gloves and angle grinder disks etc

What else would I need?

Practice, especially before chassis work.

150amps is a bit light for any 5mm thick steel. It's gonna be running out of steam at 4mm max if you intend on welding it properly. 1-4mm it's perfect.

OK cheers for that just looked at intended plate to do bumper and it's 4.1mm so hope I can get some OK welds on it.
