I have just finished off a restoration of a wood burner for the lounge/music room (my space) the top was cracked so I thought I would cast weld it and give it a paint.
I pre heated the top and welded an inch or so at a time and then peined the weld and continued the process untill the top was fully welded.I hate wasting time the fcuker had cracked by the time I came back from lunch.
I contacted Forest Fire whom I used to make register plates for, these are plates that blank off the chimney and have an access hole with door so you can get the soot out when cleaning the chimney.
I bought a new top, glass for the door, fire brick, throat plate ,grate and sealing rope for the door and top all for under a hundred quid.
I am a great believer in mend and make do but not on this case it was not worth it.
Oh aye and six quid for a tin of paint. (No not a sick squid) thought I would get in there first!
