I'd try dropping the volts a bit. Looks like you're heading into globular transfer - it's that nasty region between dip transfer and spray-arc where you get spatter all over the place. If the machine was set for you, then someone doesn't know what they're doing (if i'm right). Take the machine down one or two volts, and adjust the wire feed to suit.
Also, if you're a bit wobbly, us both hands on the torch.

agreed Simon looks like globular transfer to me, by all the splatter and appearance of the weld..... 2 fixes to that, as Simon says drop the set a few volts, or change the wire Dia, but that I'm guessing will not be an option.....

IMHO your teacher sounds more and more of a pillok, £800 for basic site welders......maybe but unlikely, my advice large pinch of salt with half the stuff he tells you
