Long shot - galvanising in Chesterfield - group buy?!

I need a bit of galvanising doing (small quad trailer chassis). Last time I had something done at Joseph Ash it was £100 minimum order (up to a max of 100kg).

I've just been quoted £250 minimum order for up to 300kg.

I reckon I've got at least 250kg spare and makes my cheap project very expensive!!

So anyone in the area need anything doing and want to split the costs of a load?

Can't find anyone with a load going at the minute. Usually one of the farmers around here is knocking something up but I've asked around with no luck :-(

Maybe try phoning nearby gate manufacturers and trailer manufacturers companies who would have regular galv loads. Ask nicely can your item go out with theirs and give them a few £ for their biscuit fund

Also remember to correctly prepare your items for galv! So any hollow sections require drill holes of decent size and located to suit the dip. If you don't do it, they will plasma the holes and charge you for it or send it back

Yes and of a minimum size. Its worth a call to the galv place if unsure. Eg drill some items at 6mm and its still not good enough depending on the section size may need to be 10mm or larger.

So check for sure before drilling.

I used one in Ashton Under Lyne years ago....they were very happy with cash .......lol....
No idea if they still excist.....

I have one of the wedge plants 20 mins away. I can't get anything done with them for sensible money.

I take it around the corner to the fabricators there and it goes in with their truck load of stuff, and I get a sensible price.

It's legit, invoiced etc. - it's just a service that they offer (sell).

I think I posted this photo on another thread. 3 items, one of them box section, which, for some reason, is more expensive.

The chap at my local fabricators even said "that will warp" about the thin sheet part, to which I said "I know, I don't mind".

He said he would ask them to not quench it (or something like that) and it came back perfect.

I've had less than favorable results going to the same plant as a "man off the street"


Cost? £35 for the stuff in the photo. And that was including the vat...

For that price it could be worth travelling a bit. I had some done at Stoke Galvanising a couple of years ago, cost about 50p/kg, I don't think there was a minimum order.
