For the 4 oil seals,2 bearings,4 preload shims and a rear diff drain plug and washer was £244 so not as much as I was expecting thankfully.

What ... !!! ???? I wouldn't have thought that lot more than £50

Were you 100% confident that new seals were needed? Did you check the axle breather? If not, and the breather is blocked, your new seals may not appear to be working after the ’repair’.

Started cleaning up around the inner seal last night and looks like the cause of the leak is the poor method that the garage used to fit the last inner seal. As you can see in the picture it looks like they used a chisel to knock the seal in and have badly distorted the casing which is allowing the oil to get around the case. I have fitted a new extended diff breather to remove the rush of blockage.

After market wheel bearings are £50 each minimum. Big old bearing for the wheels

Sadly seems all to common, get the job done as quick as possible using anything available. Most people never realise just how common shoddy work is these days. Proper tools for pressing seals and bearings without damage cost less than £20.

I've just pulled the gearbox on a Defender to investigate why the clutch isn't working(worn out clutch fork,common problem) there were nuts missing on the engine to bell housing,someone had winched the gearbox and engine with axle breather pipe between the faces. Pipes/wires rooted incorrectly.The welding on the chassis it totally hideous. The vehicle came with a bunch of receipts for previous work.

It's easily done though. Especially when dealing with parts suppliers.

Doing job on Saturday. Distroy old bearing getting out, only to be greeted by new bearing not having magnetic abs pickup ring.

Joyous. Needed the vehicle mobile had to fit it. No option.

Genuine toyota only, £212+vat Just for the bearing.
That hurt.

Hence spending an hour making the bearing separator for it was needed.
Came apart really easy the second time though.
