Lombardini Diesel generator

ok guys im going toi have a look at a 5kva lombardini diesel generator in my local paper , for spares or repair . He wants £190 ONO , spoke to the guy today he says the engine runs well just a broken recoil starter (easy fix i should imagine ) , but it doesnt generate any more (when the engine runs that is )
if i could get it for say £150 might it be a good buy ?
i have no idea what it might be worth in working order

anyway im going to have a look tomorrow evening and take a few pound notes as well ...

anyone got any tips or things to look out for?

We had a Mosa genny welder with a lombardini diesel engine....very noisey and smokey after a while....
Shame you wont see it running really, that must knock a fair bit off his £190

Gen sets are Lombardi, I think, Yep mines noisy, heavy and smokey,....TBH its got to be a cracking price to take the punt, It could cost a fair few quid to get it generating again....

i think he said it will start , probably a rope wrapped round the pulley job
i definatly wouldnt touch it unless i see the engine running thats for sure !
you never know the generator fault might be something simple ... then again it might be expensive

If its a gen set your have to a rap a rope round to start it, Recoils were plain crap, They have a lovely kickback, on the compression stroke as well..........mmmhhhh

Bit late, but ... The Lombardini engines are cheap and cheerful Italian jobs - we use about 30 per year of their 4 cylinder liquid cooled LDW2204. The model we use has proved to be very reliable so far (we've been fitting them for about two years). Operator and servicing manuals are available here if you know what model the engine is.

Well that was a waste of time wasnt even a 5kva generator !
The numbers on the rating plate were a little worn but you could still just about see it was 3 .5 kva . NOT 5

i didnt even bother geting the engine started .....

There are some muppets about thats for sure

anyway cheers guys for the advice and thanks steve but i dont think ill be needing that info just yet !

I think you should go to person and discuss about your generator face to face, cause no body will diagnosis your machine properly from internet than a Michaeline. Yeh but the cost i am feeling high!
