buy a bigger welder, it's much cheaper at the end of the day instead of trying to modify one and frying yourself in the process
one of the main reasons many people on here wont give advice on here with views to major surgery to welders because say you do some mods and run a few rods go to change sticks and you get a full mains current through you and die. the authorities want to know what you did and how to found out how to do it and they come looking for the person that gave you the information to modify your welder in this way.

It's been designed to a cost and can only deliver a certain amount of power and performance for that cost. The windings and the transformer core have been selected to deliver within that cost. There's no realistic way of increasing that. The makers have probably pushed the components as hard as they dare already.
IIRC, the welder you've got only has two power settings which makes it awkward.
It's far better to buy a better welder.

Don't waste money on it. You can get a big enough variac for about $180 that will handle the current of the welder 
I see lots of arc welders on Craigs List. I bet you can find a real arc welder for not much money. Most are under $200. Here there is usually a Lincoln 225A for amp for $200.

Your friend was going to take it to a pawn shop. You paid $20 for it. I think you should take it to the pawn shop and write down the difference as the price of experience.
I can't see any way to do what you want which wouldn't cost a significant part of the cost of a proper welder, and be far less good, and be a lot of work, and have a risk of it going up in smoke.

Well the only reason I was able to get this one was because of the deal, I can hardly afford all the rods I've been using trying to learn this dmn thing. I definately cant afford another welder, I just thought I could "maybe" improve this one a little bit, withought spending TOO much on it. Im in college full time with a family to take care of just so you don't think i'm a slacker, lol.

Keep an eye on Craigs list. You may get lucky.
I got 1700lbs of welding equipment for less than they were worth in scrap. Took me 5 months of watching CL and ebay.
Forgiving rods tend to be expensive and how many types do you want to try, maybe not finding rods it produces the right current for - perfect rods for it - after that?
I really do think you are flogging a dead horse.
