Business cards - do people even do that any more?
Thanks, got the dual sim & cards from the current business, agreed about different formats,Absolutely, I carry three. My own personal card, the business business card and the card for another organisation I represent. We hand out cards in the shop regular.
What I have learned about Graphics, Printing and design over the years. You very much get what you pay for. If you want just a plain business card with your details on, go ahead, use one of the online print outlets and do your own. If however you want a logo designing and something memorable you need to engage the services of a professional. As James alludes to in his post above, you need the design in different formats for different things and one size does not fit all. You also need to be careful with the actual design as some designs do not transfer, for instance, something that sits perfectly well on a business card may not sit on a coffee cup print and only a professional will be able to advise. If you pay nothing for your design it is worth exactly that. One logo I have is copyrighted and it doesn't cost the earth to do, it also guarantees I can take action against anyone plagiarising it. Which has happened.
It's not just the design the choice of card is important as well, when someone hands me a card printed by one well known online print shop I know instinctively where it has come from as they are using the Chinese method of measuring grams and they are nowhere near, the card is paper thin.
Domain name, as @addjunkie said, get your own and do not use something "free" as that could end in tears and a reprint of your stationary. Be very careful about which telephone number you are going to use too, dual sim phones are a godsend.
Business cards still work for me.
I ask local companies for them, hand them out to clients, and it works.
10minutes later had stickers for my track bike.
