Locking wheel nut

I'm having to change a tyre on my Defender for the first time in the 2+ years I've owned it. Plenty of practice with my previous one, so not a problem - except that I've discovered that the spare tyre (under a wheel cover in the back) is held on with a locking wheel nut that was concealed under a false plastic nut. I've looked high and low but can't find the tool to remove the locking nut. I attempted to turn it with a pair of pliers, but the metal is so soft that it just gouged a bit out. My next option is to take an angle grinder to it unless you chaps can suggest an alternative method? I *hate* locking wheel nuts and have no need for them, so cutting this one apart won't break my heart

Smack an old socket over it

Use a smallish cutting disc and slice through the nut, two parallel horizontal cuts just missing the bolt threads, top and bottom, won't take more than two minutes. And the nut will just fall off.

use a punch in one of the drilled holes and tap with hammer in direction of unscrewing till it moves then try mole grips to turn nut off
