local gas suppliers

I have been looking for gas on ebay and there is something that I cant quite understand. There is a 9L bottle from hobby weld on there whitch looks a good size and directly below is a disposable bottle which claims to contain 60L. Could someone please explain.

The hobby weld states 9 litre but is at 137 bar so in effect has 1233 litres, I presume the disposable is quoting the total gas quantity as 60 litres.

For a little more money you can get disposables with 110 litres of welding mix. Please note that this is not a recommendation as I've had no cause to buy them. Nor am I currently inclined to get one of these 'rent free' bottles. £150 for your first bottle - including gas; 11 litres @ 200 BAR - and then £50 to refill on an exchange basis much as you would buy Calor gas. Being smaller than a 20 litre bottle they should be easier to move around and less likely to tip over although they come with regulator and flow meter contained within the handle so there's less chance of damage if they do.

However for more gas per bottle I'm also looking in to the 10 and 20 litre Genie range (both @ 300BAR) from BOC and/or the 'Volkszone' deal. Just waiting for call back from the BOC sales team in this regard. More later.

If you needs. Lot of gas the boc deal takes some beating, I use hobby weld at the moment as unless I use 3 bottles a year it's not worth me changing to boc, I have just finished my project so won't be using as much now, but would never use disposables,

I've now signed up to the Volkszone deal for Argoshield Lite at my local BOC depot as it's only 5 miles away. My first 20 litre, 230 BAR Y size bottle cost me £32.29. Somehow the quoted gross weight figure of 35 kilos seems more than a little optimistic as I had some difficulty in carrying from the car into the house. Or am I just getting old

My first task will be to make or buy a welding trolley.

Should have just rung J&R in sheffield. £50 deposit for 5 years bottle rental and fill prices aren't much different, about £25 for a 10 litre and £35 for a 20L I think last time I had one.

There's a BOC outlet here. If you want to set up an account (Volkszone) you will have to phone 0800 111 333 and talk to Sales. Then the paperwork should be faxed through to the branch for you to sign later the same day. Once that's done you can stagger out with a full cylinder - 35Kgs gross weight.

As explained in another reply the 60 litre disposable cylinder is the total amount of uncompressed gas , a 9 litre cylinder at 137 bar is 1233 litres and our 10 litre cylinders at 200 bar are 2000 litres of gas.
