little tails?

hello
after the last few times i have been using my mig i have noticed that the welds go fine, its just when i stop at the end of the weld its like a little tail, mountain grows from the end, only when i finish welding

any ideas whats wrong?

Have you tried dressing them off and are they full of porosity under the surface

They get ground off, they are hollow inside so grind down easy, both metas are clean but the wire is rusty due to not being used a great deal

You could well have answered your own question there fella, pull all the rusty wire off and bin it then try again with clean wire and see what happens

Yes, most of the time you will have this at the end of a weld because your holding your shroud too far off the workpiece, which means you don't have enough shielding gas to protect the weld...
Try to keep the same distance even at the end of a weld, if you have a post gas setting on your kit i'd suggest you'd use it!

Haha, this is the first time someone calls them "little tails" very polite of you Pondy, i usually call them "nipples"....

Just try and take your time to finish the weld, do not jerk the torch away at the end!
