This is an Oil cooler, had a leak on the pipe , i had to cut away the support bracket to get at the pipe to weld it , it was full of oil , managed to get a weld around the tube and it held at 2 bar , just got to weld the brackets back on job done, 85 amps AC , 20 cfh not clean enough really but it worked out ok

i was wondering why an intercooler would be full of oil...the leak would be the least of their worries if it was an intercooler and was gathering oil

Nice tidy job there mate. If the other one wasn't sitting there Un welded Id never know you repaired it, it's that tidy.

Don't go giving all the trade secrets away. everyone seems to think this kind of work is next to impossible without a pedal or a fancy machine
nice tidy job, you did well to cope with the oil in the swaged joint

It's a good method I have done it a few times particularly if you have to weld down the side of a drilled hole and you don't want to see it fall away. Nicely done I look forward to seeing the completed repair.

Ali tigged a rock damaged sump on a bmw motorbike yesterday.

What sort of pressure does an oil cooler have to deal with, are they in the return to the sump. I know that typically engine oil when cold have been 100 psi or there about and what’s that, 7 bar?

The welding looks very good considering the contamination that must have been around.
